A Mature Applicant is an applicant who satisfies all of the criteria listed below. Mature applicants must fulfill all necessary program prerequisites before applying. The admissions committee reviews all applications on an individual basis.
Where a deadline falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, the effective deadline will be the following business day. Strict conditions for eligibility apply to the Mature Student category, including demonstrating your academic potential by completing a minimum number of specific courses within the last three years. Each applicant is considered on an individual basis, based on all elements in the file.
If you are 21 years or over and would like to study for a Durham University degree we would delighted to receive an application from you and will be able to consider this in a holistic way, taking account of your skills, experience and interests, whether you have formal qualifications or not. Some of our mature students have been looking for a change of career or a stimulating course to study in retirement, but we are happy to consider applications from mature students, whatever your particular circumstances. Adults can apply to attend colleges or universities as mature students. Applications by mature students are evaluated differently from applicants who have just finished high school. Many schools recognize that mature students have life experience that younger students may not have, such as work experience, experience as a parent or independent learning. Bursaries are available on a first come, first served basis for children of students enrolled in programs at the College. Under the mature student policy, applicants who do not meet the normal University admission requirements may be considered for admission to the first year of a direct entry program.
