Abstract Here we show the effects of repeated electroejaculation EE on mean values of motility, mitochondrial functionality, and expression of active caspases on goat sperm obtained by EE. Evaluations were done using CASA and flow cytometry. A strategy for identification of kinematic sperm subpopulations, when individual data of sperm are not provided by the CASA system, is provided. Fifty semen samples, five of each of ten adult creole goats, were obtained by electroejaculation.

The effect of inhaled epichlorohydrin on rat sperm motility characteristics was evaluated. Male F rats were exposed to ppm epichlorhydrin via inhalation for 4 hr in the morning of Day 0 and killed immediately and on Days 1, 2, 6, and 14 postexposure. Epichlorohydrin did not affect the percentage of motile sperm at any time.
Computer-aided sperm analysis CASA technology was developed in the late s for analyzing sperm movement characteristics or kinematics and has been highly successful in enabling this field of research. CASA has also been used with great success for measuring semen characteristics such as sperm concentration and proportions of progressive motility in many animal species, including wide application in domesticated animal production laboratories and reproductive toxicology. However, attempts to use CASA for human clinical semen analysis have largely met with poor success due to the inherent difficulties presented by many human semen samples caused by sperm clumping and heavy background debris that, until now, have precluded accurate digital image analysis.
